Applying Policy to Inter-domain MANET Routing in Challenging Environments

Abstract

MANETs operate within a considerably more dynamic environment than traditional fixed network inter-domain routing is designed to handle, as MANETs are wireless networks with rapidly changing topologies. Inter-Domain Routing for MANETs (IDRM) aims to provide a solution to managing dynamic topology changes, but the impact of this on network resource management has not yet been examined. This paper discusses additional problems arising from dynamic connectivity between heterogeneous MANETs and external networks, and details future research plans to provide routing between disparate systems based on metrics including bandwidth, latency, cost, and user requirements.
